A little girl was praying in her room, asking the Lord to give her a bicycle. The parents heard it and decided to act. But because of her young age they bought her a tricycle. When the child saw the tricycle she exclaimed, “Dear Lord Jesus, don’t You know what a bicycle is?” Yes, the Lord surely knew that, but He also knows that little girls who are not yet ready for a bicycle can get hurt on it.

As adult, we sometimes ask God for things that we are not yet ripe to have. But God gives us things that are just best for our situation. We need faith to trust that God will always give us the best He thinks fit.
The Christian life is a life of listening to the Holy Spirit. Yet Christians tend to substitute a lot of things in place of listening – even praying. Too often we fail to listen to God. We are trying so hard to do all the right things, that we get in God’s way. We have a tendency to serve the vehicle which God wants to use, instead of God himself. We find ourselves having faith in faith, instead of responding to God in faith; and praying for the sake of praying, rather than hearing God within our prayer, telling us how to pray.
